10th Annual Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival @ Douglas County Courthouse and other locations | Douglasville | Georgia | United States
A Decade of Gardening, Outdoor Living and Festival Excellence…The 10th annual Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival will be held Saturday – Sunday, June 3-4, 2017, at locations throughout Douglas County. The theme this year is “Making Waves!” and the theme flower is the Hydrangea Everlasting Ocean (Hydrangea Macrophylla ‘Hortmoc’ Everlasting® Ocean.) All Festival activities will use the “Making Waves” theme, including the Standard Flower Show, the Miniature Gardens, Master Gardeners’ Vegetable Garden Scarecrows, and the Courthouse Gallery Art Exhibit. The annual Festival, always held the first full weekend in June at the height of the Hydrangea growing season, is named for Atlanta native Penny McHenry, Founder of the American Hydrangea Society, who received her first Hydrangea as a memorial gift at the loss of her daughter. Mrs. McHenry had close ties to Douglas County and her family has granted permission for the use of her name for the Festival.
