Join us as we celebrate Summer in the South Exhibit with artwork featuring Carl Olson, Melody Chambers, Charlise Sprewell, and Ashley Chambers. The exhibit opens on Thursday, May 9th and will remain on view through June 27th. Hosted by the Sweetwater Camera Club, the Opening Reception will be held Thursday, May 9th, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Council. Gallery admission, tour, and reception are always free. Special gallery tours are also available by calling the CAC to schedule an appointment – 770.949.2787.

Calling all residents and businesses of Douglasville/Douglas County! Decorate your mailboxes, lampposts, gates, fences, trees, signs, and doorways in festive hydrangea blossoms, ribbons, and colors to welcome guests and festival attendees to our community! Keep Douglasville Beautiful will hold an Embellishment Contest that will judge the outstanding efforts, so be creative! Awards will be presented for the following categories: • Exceptional Design Award • Color Award • Creativity Award • Best Mailbox Award • Best Business Display Award • Spirit Award Entries should be submitted to Keep Douglasville Beautiful no later than Wednesday, May 27 at 11pm. Please e-mail entries to info@KeepDouglasvilleBeautiful.org . Please include pictures of the decorations, the home or business’ address and contact information. Join Beyond the Front Porch for a day in the sun tubing on a 2 hour trip on the Chattahoochee River through the scenic Alpine Village of Helen, GA. Helen Ga Tubing provides your tube, US Coast Guard approved life preserver, and shuttle service. This activity, transportation and lunch is FREE for students on free/reduced lunch and $25 for all others.

he Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/ Douglas County and the City of Douglasville Parks and Recreation join forces once again to offer the annual intensive summer arts camp at Hunter Park, from Monday, June 10th through Friday, June 14th. Children, 7 – 11 years old, will spend a productive week exploring a wide variety of art disciplines with four expert and experienced teaching artists. The goal of the Summer Arts Camp is to encourage and reveal the talents of every student to highlight the impact the arts have on young children in developing their creative skills, social interactions and cultural awareness. Fees for the week are $125 for the first child ($115 for CAC members) with a $5 dollar discount for siblings. Camp runs from 9 am – 4 pm with an early drop off and late pick up option for an additional fee. Space is limited. Registration can be done in person or by visiting the Arts Council website – www.artsdouglas.org. During the Summer Arts Camp, artists will work with each student on specific projects within their discipline that reflect and expand on a common theme addressed by all the teachers. The camp concludes with a Celebration of Success – a small reception to take place on Friday, June 14th, from 5 until 6 pm., to which the public is invited. Attendees at the Celebration of Success will have the opportunity to witness a memorable performance featuring the performing arts skills learned during the week as well as the student’s artwork in a temporary exhibit put together by the visual arts teachers. Join Beyond the Front Porch as we tour a series of underground geologic caves with a sound, light and water show located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Childersburg, AL. For an additional cost students can participate in amusement park attractions including the Lost Trail Maze, gemstone panning, wall climbing and more. This activity, transportation and lunch is FREE for students on free/reduced lunch and $25 for all others.

Join Beyond the Front Porch as we embark on a daylong adventure designed to introduce visitors to the dramatic history of space exploration, from early spaceflight to the shuttle program and beyond! We will visit the Museum, Shuttle Park, and Rocket Park, have access to Public Simulators. This activity, transportation and lunch is FREE for students on free/reduced lunch and $25 for all others.
Sep 14 all-day Beyond the Front Porch
Join Beyond the Front Porch as we tour Zoo Atlanta that houses over 1,500 animals representing more than 220 species. The zoo is home to the nation’s largest zoological collections of gorillas and orangutans and is one of only four zoos in the U.S. currently housing giant pandas. This activity, transportation and lunch is FREE for students on free/reduced lunch and $25 for all others.
Oct 12 all-day Beyond the Front Porch
Join Beyond the Front Porch as we visit The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum in Atlanta, Georgia that houses U.S. President Jimmy Carter‘s papers and other material relating to the Carter administration and the Carter family’s life. The library also hosts special exhibits, such as Carter’s Nobel Peace Prize and a full-scale replica of the Oval Office, including a copy of the Resolute Desk. The building housing the library and museum makes up 69,750 square feet, with 15,269 square feet of space for exhibits and 19,818 square feet of archive and storage space. The library stacks house 27 million pages of documents; 500,000 photos, and 40,000 objects, along with films, videos, and audiotapes. These collections cover all areas of the Carter administration, from foreign and domestic policy to the personal lives of President and Mrs. Carter. This activity, transportation and lunch is FREE for students on free/reduced lunch and $25 for all others.
Nov 9 all-day Beyond the Front Porch
Join Beyond the Front Porch as we honor our Veterans by learning more about the sacrifices of our Nations Infantry. We will have an immersive experience featuring over 230 years of Military History located in Columbus, GA just outside of Fort Benning. This 190,000 sq foot museum houses more than 70,000 military artifacts. We will have a professional guide lead us through this massive campus, while sharing with us interesting facts of the day in the life of a soldier and also enjoy an informative IMAX movie. This activity, transportation and lunch is FREE for students on free/reduced lunch and $25 for all others.
