Join us for Douglas County’s largest annual student youth art exhibit, showcasing selected work from student grades K-12 in the Douglas County Schools. The reception is free and open to the public, hosted by the Douglas County art teachers. Teachers, family, and friends are all invited to come out and show their love for Douglas County’s young emerging artists. The exhibit will be on view at the CAC March 7th – 28th. Opening reception at the Cultural Arts Center on March 7th from 5-7 pm. Hosted by the DC Art Teachers.

Kaleidoscope is a salute to the arts featuring vocal, dance, and visual art performances from talented high school students in the Douglas County School System. The community is invited to this special evening of talent. The evening’s vocal talent will include an a capella performance, show choirs, and special selections from musicals. A visual art display will feature art in various mediums. Several colleges and universities will be onsite with information about their fine arts programs and admissions process.

Over 40 award-winning pieces of art from disabled artists across Georgia will be on display April 4 – 25 at the Georgia Artists with Disabilities, Inc.’s annual statewide tour and exhibit at the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County. The opening reception will be hosted by the Douglas County Pilot Club on Thursday, April 4th, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Council. Georgia Artists with Disabilities, Inc. was founded in 1985 by the Pilot Clubs of Metro Atlanta and is supported by Georgia District Pilot Clubs. The goal of the Pilot International Foundation is “full citizenship for people who are disabled.” The mission of Georgia Artists with Disabilities is to provide avenues through which Georgia artists with disabilities can display their artistic accomplishments in all disciplines of the arts and create public awareness of the artistic skills these artists have developed by overcoming the obstacles of their disabilities. Homeless women and children are often left without even the most basic necessities we take for granted. The Shoebox Project is an annual campaign that collects and distributes shoeboxes filled with basic necessities to homeless women and children in Greater Atlanta. At the Shoebox Party we will be decorating the shoeboxes, writting inspirational messages to put in the boxes and filling the boxes with the donated items. Items to donate: shoeboxes, shampoo, deodorant, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, hair comb/brush, sun protector, lip balm, adhesive bandages, hand towels, antibiotic ointment, socks, tampons, panty liners, travel size water bottles, rain ponchos, resealable zipper storage bags, prepaid phone cards Cannot accept: medicine, food, sewing kits, used or opened items If you can’t make the Shoebox Project Party, you can still donate by dropping off items needed to fill the shoeboxes or you can donate funds to: www.paypal.me/talithacumi all funds will be used to get the supplies needed. **In the past, I’ve been successful finding items at the dollar store.**

The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County in partnership with the Douglas County Department of Parks and Recreation offers a full week of art exploration during spring break. When school is out for a week, why not have your child experience something fun, exciting and educational. The Spring Break Arts Camp takes place April 8th – 12th, 2019 from 9:00 -4:00pm daily at Deer Lick Park. At the 2019 Spring Break Arts Camp children (7-11) years old will explore performing and visual arts with (4) experienced teaching artists to a set theme. On the final evening – April 12th, the campers will share with family and friends an original performance and an exhibit of their artwork at the “Celebration of Success”. We host 3 on 3, double elimination, basketball tournaments that take place at outdoor public areas. We cater to youth ages 8-18. Each team of 3-5 players’ battle through a series of double elimination rounds with the top teams in each division receiving trophies at the end of the day. The divisions are broken down by age (8-11, 12-14, & 15-18) the tournament is coed and we highly encourage girl participation. Each participant will receive a t-shirt, meal, and drink. The director and staff of the tournament have a passion for basketball and outdoor activities for youth. We promote physical fitness activities for youth. Join Beyond the Front Porch as our students explore a 120,000 square foot museum located in Cartersville, Georgia, where guests are invited to See America’s Story through contemporary Western artwork, a Presidential Gallery, Civil War art gallery, and Sagebrush Ranch, an interactive children’s gallery. This Smithsonian Affiliate Institution has been open since August 2003, Booth Museum is the only museum of its kind in the Southeast and is the second largest art museum in the state of Georgia.
