Join Beyond the Front Porch as we tour the National Center for Civil & Human Rights in Atlanta, GA. This museum is dedicated to the achievements of both the civil rights movement in the United States and the broader worldwide human rights movement. This first of three phase 35,000 sq ft facility opened to the public on June 23, 2014. This activity, transportation and lunch is FREE for students on free/reduced lunch and $25 for all others.

To commemorate Douglasville’s 144th Birthday, the City of Douglasville invites residents, businesses and the public to join them at the Douglasville Conference Center at 3 pm on February 25th. A brief presentation by Mayor Robinson and other elected officials will take place at the Conference Center, where light refreshments will be served. Immediately following the presentation, the group will assemble on O’Neal Plaza for a special ceremony. Pennies will be tossed into the fountain on the plaza to wish the City well in its 144th year. Participants will be urged to make their own wish for the City of Douglasville as their pennies are tossed into the fountain. “We’re excited about doing something different and involving everyone for the City’s birthday celebration this year,” Tourism Program Manager, Samantha Rosado, said of the celebration. “It’s a symbolic way of showing the City’s plan to set the community on a path of preservation, progress, and growth.” The celebration is free and open to the public; however, an RSVP is requested as light refreshments will be served. The second meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 26th at Eastside Elementary School located at 8266 Connally Drive in Douglasville. Each meeting will be held from 5:30 – 7:00 pm and food and light refreshments will be provided for all attendees. Parks and Recreation staff and representatives from Goodwyn, Mills, and Cawood, Inc. (GMC) will be on hand to hold discussions and receive the wants and needs of the community so they can incorporate them in the redesign of Jessie Davis, Mill Village, and Willing Workers’ Parks. A visual art display will feature art in various mediums. Several colleges and universities will be onsite with information about their fine arts programs and admissions process.
