The City of Douglasville Parks and Recreation Department has announced a series of public input meetings for the upcoming parks redesign project. The third and final meeting will be held on Tuesday March 5th at the Hawthorne Recreation Center at Jessie Davis Park located at 7775 Malone Street in Douglasville.   Each meeting will be held from 5:30 – 7:00 pm and food and light refreshments will be provided for all attendees. Parks and Recreation staff and representatives from Goodwyn, Mills, and Cawood, Inc. (GMC) will be on hand to hold discussions and receive the wants and needs of the community so they can incorporate them in the redesign of Jessie Davis, Mill Village, and Willing Workers’ Parks. Over 40 award-winning pieces of art from disabled artists across Georgia will be on display April 4 – 25 at the Georgia Artists with Disabilities, Inc.’s annual statewide tour and exhibit at the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County. The opening reception will be hosted by the Douglas County Pilot Club on Thursday, April 4th, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Council. Georgia Artists with Disabilities, Inc. was founded in 1985 by the Pilot Clubs of Metro Atlanta and is supported by Georgia District Pilot Clubs. The goal of the Pilot International Foundation is “full citizenship for people who are disabled.” The mission of Georgia Artists with Disabilities is to provide avenues through which Georgia artists with disabilities can display their artistic accomplishments in all disciplines of the arts and create public awareness of the artistic skills these artists have developed by overcoming the obstacles of their disabilities. The second annual Ultimate Easter Adventure! This year we are bringing you thousands of eggs, and three different egg hunts. The first egg hunt of the morning will be for ages 5 and under. The second Easter egg hunt will be for ages 6 through 12. The third egg hunt is a special devilishly difficult adults only egg hunt in the afternoon. All of the Easter egg hunts are free. The afternoon adult only hunt requires registration, but, is free too. Bring the kids down for photos with the Easter Bunny and his friends. Homeless women and children are often left without even the most basic necessities we take for granted. The Shoebox Project is an annual campaign that collects and distributes shoeboxes filled with basic necessities to homeless women and children in Greater Atlanta. At the Shoebox Party we will be decorating the shoeboxes, writting inspirational messages to put in the boxes and filling the boxes with the donated items. Items to donate: shoeboxes, shampoo, deodorant, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, hair comb/brush, sun protector, lip balm, adhesive bandages, hand towels, antibiotic ointment, socks, tampons, panty liners, travel size water bottles, rain ponchos, resealable zipper storage bags, prepaid phone cards Cannot accept: medicine, food, sewing kits, used or opened items If you can’t make the Shoebox Project Party, you can still donate by dropping off items needed to fill the shoeboxes or you can donate funds to: www.paypal.me/talithacumi all funds will be used to get the supplies needed. **In the past, I’ve been successful finding items at the dollar store.**

The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County in partnership with the Douglas County Department of Parks and Recreation offers a full week of art exploration during spring break. When school is out for a week, why not have your child experience something fun, exciting and educational. The Spring Break Arts Camp takes place April 8th – 12th, 2019 from 9:00 -4:00pm daily at Deer Lick Park. At the 2019 Spring Break Arts Camp children (7-11) years old will explore performing and visual arts with (4) experienced teaching artists to a set theme. On the final evening – April 12th, the campers will share with family and friends an original performance and an exhibit of their artwork at the “Celebration of Success”.
