National Visual Arts Show @ Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County

– On September 8th the Cultural Arts Council will announce the winners of the “Red Cockerill Gallery” NOVAS awards. The CAC has named awards thanks to the sponsorship of the Red Cockerill Gallery in Austell. NOVAS (National Open Visual Arts Show) is a show open to all. Artists were able to submit up to three entries and are guaranteed that at least one will be displayed. This also makes them eligible to win the First Place award of $500, Second Place award of $250, Third Place award of $150, and Honorable Mention of $100. The Red Cockerill Gallery provides custom framing as well as sales of original artworks and limited edition prints, and conducts art classes and workshops. The NOVAS exhibit runs from September 1-29 and the reception where the “Red Cockerill Gallery” NOVAS Awards will be announced is on Thursday, September 8th from 6-8 p.m.. It is free and open to all and the reception is hosted by the Douglas County Art Guild. 9th Annual Tributary Scholarship Golf Tournament @ Chapel Hills Golf Course

The Tributary Social Club is getting set to tee off their 9th annual scholarship golf tournament. This yearly event helps fund $2,500 college scholarships to a graduating senior at each of Douglas County’s public high schools. “To date, we have awarded over $110,000 in scholarships,” according to Tributary Social Club President Phillip Sisk. “Scholarship recipients go through a rigorous selection process in coordination with the high school counselors.” This year’s golf tournament is scheduled for September 26, at Chapel Hills Golf Course and is open to anyone who would like to play. Entry fees are $125 per person, or $400 for a foursome. Tee time for this tournament is 10:00 AM for the tournament’s Shotgun Start. Players can sign up at www.tributarysocialclub.org/store.html. Golfers will receive a swag bag, breakfast and a barbecue buffet dinner included in the entry fee. Prizes will be awarded. There are also sponsorship opportunities available which are a great way for businesses and community leaders to support these scholarships and to put their name in front of golfers as well as our whole community. 37th Annual Moonlight Run @ Downtown Douglasville

We are excited that this 5K race is now a part of the USATF Georgia Distance Grand Prix Series! Click here for more information about the races in this series. Offering a variety of distances, from a tot trot for the little guys, to 1 mile for school age children, and a 5K through the streets of downtown Douglasville, this race has something for everyone…and it’s in the dark! This is one of the largest after-dark runs in the Southeast, with approximately 2,000 participants. The race features a chip-timed USATF certified 5K course and is part of the Run and See Georgia Grand Prix Series. Your finish time for the 5K event can be used as a qualifying time for seeding in the Peachtree Road Race. For your safety and the safety of others, strollers, roller blades, skateboards, animals and headphones are not allowed on the course. Participants with these devices or pets will be disqualified and removed from the course.
