Join us as we celebrate Summer in the South Exhibit with artwork featuring Carl Olson, Melody Chambers, Charlise Sprewell, and Ashley Chambers. The exhibit opens on Thursday, May 9th and will remain on view through June 27th. Hosted by the Sweetwater Camera Club, the Opening Reception will be held Thursday, May 9th, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Council. Gallery admission, tour, and reception are always free. Special gallery tours are also available by calling the CAC to schedule an appointment – 770.949.2787.

The Young Fables (TYF) are the promising modern traditional country duo comprised of three-time American Idol vet Laurel Wright and Wesley Lunsford. The act is best known for Laurel’s stop-you-in-your-tracks vocals and Wes’ impressive Chet Atkins style guitar chops and harmonies. The pair and their sophomore record “OLD SONGS” from Grammy Award winning Mitch Dane have garnered attention from some of the biggest names in the music industry such as Travis Tritt, Keith Urban, Sheryl Crow, CMT and Rolling Stone magazine. Shania Twain invited the duo to showcase on her breakthrough television show Real Country in late 2018 cementing the duo’s spot in the story of country music.

Looking for a fun, interesting, and unique opportunity for your child this Summer? Well look no further. The Douglasville Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Digital Media Camp at the Ike Owings Community Center. The participants of the program are afforded the opportunity to learn Mass Media basics and skills on how to operate a video camera. Participant will also learn how to create commercials, edit videos, and create flyers while gaining an understanding of the importance of reach, target audience, and demographics. Campers will visit local TV stations and take advantage of a behind the scene look at the television broadcasting. The camp is open to both boys and girls between the ages of 10-14.

BTFP Jimmy Carter Presidential Library @ Beyond the Front Porch

Join Beyond the Front Porch as we visit The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum in Atlanta, Georgia that houses U.S. President Jimmy Carter‘s papers and other material relating to the Carter administration and the Carter family’s life. The library also hosts special exhibits, such as Carter’s Nobel Peace Prize and a full-scale replica of the Oval Office, including a copy of the Resolute Desk. The building housing the library and museum makes up 69,750 square feet, with 15,269 square feet of space for exhibits and 19,818 square feet of archive and storage space. The library stacks house 27 million pages of documents; 500,000 photos, and 40,000 objects, along with films, videos, and audiotapes. These collections cover all areas of the Carter administration, from foreign and domestic policy to the personal lives of President and Mrs. Carter. This activity, transportation and lunch is FREE for students on free/reduced lunch and $25 for all others.

Join Beyond the Front Porch as we honor our Veterans by learning more about the sacrifices of our Nations Infantry. We will have an immersive experience featuring over 230 years of Military History located in Columbus, GA just outside of Fort Benning. This 190,000 sq foot museum houses more than 70,000 military artifacts. We will have a professional guide lead us through this massive campus, while sharing with us interesting facts of the day in the life of a soldier and also enjoy an informative IMAX movie. This activity, transportation and lunch is FREE for students on free/reduced lunch and $25 for all others.
