To commemorate Douglasville’s 144th Birthday, the City of Douglasville invites residents, businesses and the public to join them at the Douglasville Conference Center at 3 pm on February 25th. A brief presentation by Mayor Robinson and other elected officials will take place at the Conference Center, where light refreshments will be served. Immediately following the presentation, the group will assemble on O’Neal Plaza for a special ceremony. Pennies will be tossed into the fountain on the plaza to wish the City well in its 144th year. Participants will be urged to make their own wish for the City of Douglasville as their pennies are tossed into the fountain. “We’re excited about doing something different and involving everyone for the City’s birthday celebration this year,” Tourism Program Manager, Samantha Rosado, said of the celebration. “It’s a symbolic way of showing the City’s plan to set the community on a path of preservation, progress, and growth.” The celebration is free and open to the public; however, an RSVP is requested as light refreshments will be served. RSVP’s can be sent to tatek@douglasvillega.gov by February 15th. The City of Douglasville Parks and Recreation Department has announced a series of public input meetings for the upcoming parks redesign project. The second meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 26th at Eastside Elementary School located at 8266 Connally Drive in Douglasville. Each meeting will be held from 5:30 – 7:00 pm and food and light refreshments will be provided for all attendees. Parks and Recreation staff and representatives from Goodwyn, Mills, and Cawood, Inc. (GMC) will be on hand to hold discussions and receive the wants and needs of the community so they can incorporate them in the redesign of Jessie Davis, Mill Village, and Willing Workers’ Parks. Over 40 award-winning pieces of art from disabled artists across Georgia will be on display April 4 – 25 at the Georgia Artists with Disabilities, Inc.’s annual statewide tour and exhibit at the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County. The opening reception will be hosted by the Douglas County Pilot Club on Thursday, April 4th, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Council. Georgia Artists with Disabilities, Inc. was founded in 1985 by the Pilot Clubs of Metro Atlanta and is supported by Georgia District Pilot Clubs. The goal of the Pilot International Foundation is “full citizenship for people who are disabled.” The mission of Georgia Artists with Disabilities is to provide avenues through which Georgia artists with disabilities can display their artistic accomplishments in all disciplines of the arts and create public awareness of the artistic skills these artists have developed by overcoming the obstacles of their disabilities. The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County in partnership with the Douglas County Department of Parks and Recreation offers a full week of art exploration during spring break. When school is out for a week, why not have your child experience something fun, exciting and educational. The Spring Break Arts Camp takes place April 8th – 12th, 2019 from 9:00 -4:00pm daily at Deer Lick Park. At the 2019 Spring Break Arts Camp children (7-11) years old will explore performing and visual arts with (4) experienced teaching artists to a set theme. On the final evening – April 12th, the campers will share with family and friends an original performance and an exhibit of their artwork at the “Celebration of Success”.
